Privacy

Draft for review. This page is waiting for TJ's approval.

The short version

This site doesn't track you. There are no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies, so there's no cookie banner. The only information it collects is what you type into the contact form or the mailing list signup.

The contact form

When you send a message, your name, email address, topic and message are emailed to TJ so she can reply. The website itself doesn't store them. The emails are kept in TJ's inbox for as long as needed to deal with your message, and deleted within two years.

To stop spam floods, the site briefly remembers a scrambled (hashed) version of your internet address for up to one hour. It can't be turned back into your address and is deleted automatically.

The mailing list

If you join the mailing list, your email address (and first name, if you give it) goes to Kit, the newsletter service TJ uses to send her emails. You'll get an email asking you to confirm before anything else is sent. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from future mailings straight away.

TJ's newsletter service is Kit (kit.com), which stores your details on TJ's behalf and only uses them to send her emails. Kit's own privacy policy is at kit.com/privacy.

YouTube videos

Videos on this site don't load anything from YouTube until you press play. When you do, the video plays from YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube's own privacy policy applies from then on.

Links to other sites

Links to Bandcamp, ticket sellers, social media and other sites take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.

Visiting on older browsers

For fun, this site also works on very old browsers, like the one on the Sega Dreamcast. Those browsers can't use modern secure connections, so pages and forms sent from them travel unencrypted. If you're on a modern browser, everything is encrypted as usual.

The 2003 website

The preserved 2003 site at /retro is a copy of the original pages. Its old forms now go to the same contact form and mailing list described above.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what information TJ holds about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. Use the contact form and choose "Other". If you're unhappy with the answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
